Life Safety Systems
Life Safety Systems
In most commercial spaces a Fire Alarm System provides signals to other building systems to provide smoke control and safe paths of egress for occupants. These systems are referred to as Life Safety Systems and provide technology to do the following:
- Recall elevators to a smoke-free floor to prevent use in a fire condition
- Open dampers and start a dedicated smoke-exhaust system to evacuate smoke from a specific floor or area
- Start fans to pressurize stairways and elevator shafts to prevent smoke from migrating to other floors or blocking the main path of egress
Early Warning Systems
Early-Warning Detectors are equal to and often better than a human in detecting fire. These systems typically use a sophisticated detection chamber to accurately access a fire situation. The detection unit measurers the visual obstruction level in the sample. Alarm and alert levels can be set to determine sensitivity and allow for benign dust levels that may be present in the protected space. There are two types of Early-Warning Detectors:
- Very Intelligent Early Warning (VIEW) Detectors use a laser light source to greatly improve the sensitivity of spot-type detectors. These units are similar to and used in the same locations as conventional smoke detectors, but are more sensitive. VIEW detectors can share the same circuit as conventional detectors.
- VESDA Air Sampling Detectors are wall-mounted extra-sensitive detection units that are connected to as many as four zones of sampling pipes in the protected space. Holes of pre-determined sizes are drilled into PVC sampling pipe. A pump in the detection unit draws air samples from the holes along each sampling pipe into the detection chamber in a rotating sequence.
TPI currently partners with trusted teammates who offer UL approved fire alarm and life safety systems and are staffed with factory trained technicians to design, engineer and provide service. Using our partners, we also provide UL approved central station monitoring services on the systems we install and maintain.
