CATV/MATV Systems

What is a CATV/MATV system? MATV stands for Master Antenna Television while CATV once stood for Community Antenna Television. For typical applications today it all means the same thing - distributed cable TV. In a multi dwelling building it would not be practical, if even possible, to install a TV antenna for each individual television and so a distributed cable TV system is the best solution. For most applications this type of system can be designed for cable TV, off-air TV, digital satellite or a combination thereof. It is also important to make sure that the system is capable of carrying digital signals, as digital in the not too distant future will be the only service available.
